IT took 14 years, but the Trinidad and Tobago men’s 4×100-metre team who competed at the 2008 Beijing Olympics can now call themselves gold medallists.

TRINIDAD AND Tobago’s 2008 Olympic men’s 4×100-metre relay team will receive their long-awaited gold medals at the International Olympic Committee (IOC) headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland on Tuesday.

GWENDOLYN Smith won gold for Trinidad and Tobago in the W55 javelin event at the 2022 World Masters Athletics meet in Tampere, Finland, on Sunday.

JEREEM Richards, Michelle-Lee Ahye and Dylan Carter, the three Trinidad and Tobago medallists at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, which took place at the Gold Coast in Australia, are among the group of 73 TT athletes who will feature in this year’s edition – in Birmingham, England, from July 28 to August 8.

EMMANUEL Callender said it was an emotional moment for him when the Trinidad and Tobago men’s 4×100-metre 2008 Beijing Olympic team received their gold medals – 14 years later.

NATIONAL junior athletes, who were recognized for their achievement in 2022 on Tuesday, were urged to remain patient as success is not always immediate.

TRINIDAD AND Tobago have made their mark on the Olympic stage, bringing joy to the people of this country. Weightlifter Rodney Wilkes got the ball rolling at the 1948 London Games which was followed by some memorable performances. Sprinter Hasely Crawford, javelin thrower Keshorn Walcott and a men’s 4×100-metre team all reached the top of the podium and the efforts of swimmer George Bovell and sprinter Ato Boldon will never be forgotten.
