A storming home straight run from Machel Cedenio propelled Trinidad and Tobago to victory in the men’s 4×400 metres final, at the IAAF World Relays here in Yokohama, Japan, yesterday. Deon Lendore, Jereem “The Dream” Richards, Asa Guevara and anchorman Cedenio constructed a superb four-lap effort at International Stadium Yokohama to snatch the title from three-time champions United States.
Third at the final handover, T&T found a hero in Cedenio, the 23-year-old quartermiler digging deep into his reserves to surge past Jamaican Nathon Allen on the back straight, before overhauling American anchor Paul Dedewo at the line. The heroic one-lap run handed the Red, White and Black victory in three minutes, 00.81 seconds – the fastest time in the world this year.
