Sprinter Jonathan Farinha was a comfortable winner in the men’s 100 metres dash on the second day of the National Association for Athletics Administrations (NAAA) test series at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Mucurapo, Port-of-Spain on Sunday.
The Abilene Wildcats crossed the line in 10.53 seconds ahead of clubmate Dominic Cole (10.86) and Khaliyq Abdullah of Simplex (10.90), respectively to win at the first track meet this season, which like last season have been disrupted by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Leah Bertrand of Simplex had success in the Under-20 girls race winning in 11.87 and was one of two runners meeting the proposed qualifying standard of 11.97 for the upcoming Carifta Games, which was moved from the traditional Easter weekend to July in Bermuda due to the pandemic. Her Simplex clubmate Kyah La Fortune (12.34) and Ashawntae James of Rss Phoenix (12.59), followed her to the line.
Cougars’ Khadeem Ryan was the winner in the Boys U-17 with 11.18, another sprinter meeting the proposed standard (11.20) for the upcoming Carifta Games. He beat Jordan Noel (Cougars) with 11.24 and Enoch Joseph (Mounting Eagles) with 11.25 to the line.

Local athletes in the same age-group categories will have to follow the same guidelines when they return to action, again following strict COVID-19 protocols, at the same venue, this coming weekend.
Following the same format, on Saturday athletes will compete in the field events including pole vault, high jump, triple jump and discus throw from 1 pm. The following day, action will be on the track also from 1 pm. The events are 100m, 110m hurdles, 400m hurdles, 800m and 3,000m.
