Sterling performances by a number of local athletes saw them mount the top of the podium at various National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) meets across the United States over the weekend.

Andre Marcano sped over the line first in the men's 60 metres at the Villanova Invitational at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, New York.

The Central Park Track Club (CPTC) sprinter clocked 6.76 seconds to win gold, advancing to the final with the second-fastest qualifying time of 6.87.

Aaron Lewis of Coppin State University also had a golden finish at the Boston University Bruce Lehane Scarlet and White Invitational, winning the men's 60m hurdles in 7.92. The junior athlete was the quickest in the preliminary round with a time of 8.03.

Another local athlete, Lewis' schoolmate Nku Henry lined up in two events. The junior placed 25th in the men's 400m in 54.76 and was 46th in the 200m in 23.96.

In Indiana at the Fred Wilt Open, Khemani Roberts had success in two events. In the pentathlon, she scored 3,791 points after top finishes in three of the five disciplines and two second-place finishes.

She won the 60m hurdles (8.93), high jump (1.72m) and the long jump (5.72m) and runner-up in the shot put (10.92m) and 800m (2:35.00).

The Tennessee Tech senior also got gold in the 4x400m relay. She ran the third leg while another T&T athlete Lisa Wickham ran the second leg to help their Tennessee Tech team get across the line in 3:56.88.

At the Bison Open in North Dakota, Jada Barker of Bemidji State picked up two medals, a silver and a bronze.

Barker was second in the 200m in 25.60 and she ran the first leg in the 4x400m, to help her team place second in section two, to be third overall in 4.12.68.

The junior athlete also raced in the 300m and placed fifth overall in 41.47 after placing second in section three.

In the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) level, field athlete Cherisse Murray copped two silver medals.

In the women's shot put event, the Central Arizona sophomore placed second with a 15.13m and was again second in the weight throw with a 17.03m-mark.
