T&T's Semoy Hackett and Andre Marcano had successful runs on the weekend at National Collegiate Athletic Association's (NCAA) meets in the United States.

On Saturday evening, Hackett sped to gold in the women's 300 metres at the University of South Carolina (USC) Open. The Empire Athletics sprinter clocked 38.46 seconds to win section two of the timed finals and be the overall winner, beating out Kristen Williams (Unattached) with 39.05 into second and third was Samantha Dirks, also of Empire Athletics (39.35) in the

Hackett also raced in the 60m and had qualified for the final with the second fastest time of 7.44 but opted out the dash, being replaced by her Empire Athletics club mate Gabrielle Farquharson in the final.

Also competing at the meet was Coppin State junior Aaron Lewis of T&T, who missed out on a medal after crossing fourth in the men's 60m hurdles in 7.90. He had the seventh-fastest qualifying time of 7.96 in the preliminary round.

On that same night at the Texas A&M Aggie Twilight, Asa Guevara bagged a bronze medal in the men's 400m. He was second in section two of the timed final with a time of 46.47, following second-place overall Jamal Walton (Unattached) with 46.26. Taking gold was Grenadian Bralon Taplin of Puma Athletics in 45.26.

The day before at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, New York, Andre Marcano sprinted to gold in the men's 60m dash at the Fastrack Last Chance.

The Central Park Track Club (CPTC) New Balance runner won section one in 6.75, to be better than DC International's John Lundy (6.87) and Monroe College freshman Giano Roberts (6.93). Marcano also had the fastest qualifying time of 6.79 in the preliminary round.

On that night as well at the Carl Maddox Field House in Louisiana, T&T's Akanni Hislop ran one of the fastest time in the history of the Louisiana State University (LSU) programme, in copping a silver medal in the men's 60 metres at the LSU Twilight meet.

According to the LSU website, Hislop used a personal best clocking of 6.660 to claim second-place finish behind Micah Larkins (6.656) of Northwestern State. The best readout of Hislop's career in the 60 meters is tied for the seventh fastest in LSU history alongside Rynell Parson (2012) and Kelly Willie (2006). It also cited that the LSU junior athlete showed that he is ready to compete on the conference and national stage in the coming weeks.

Another local sprinter, junior Xavier Mulugata also of LSU, just missed out on reaching the final, placing ninth with a 6.87-clocking in the preliminary round.

In the women's version of the race, LSU senior Zakiya Denoon placed seventh crossing the line in a time of 7.61. This after booking a spot in the final after placing eighth with 7.54 in the preliminaries.

At the Northeastern Conference (NEC) Indoor Track & Field Championships, Fairleigh Dickinson freshman Ako Hislop competed in the men's 60m event and was 25th overall with a time of 7.46.

At the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA level), Cherisse Murray continues to shine securing a silver in the women's shot put at the Northern Arizona University (NAU) Tune Up in Flagstaff.

The Central Arizona sophomore placed second with a best throw of 16.28m. Murray also competed in the weight throw but failed to register a mark.
