Cox, Regis break Green Mountain marathon recordsTrinidad Guardian :: 26.09.2014Multiple national road champion runner Richard Cox rewrote the course record when he won the fourth annual Green Mountain Marathon, in Arima, on Wednesday. When Cox crossed the finish line in front of the Arima MP’s office in 2:49.54, he also stamped his dominance having now won the title every time since the race’s inauguration. There was a considerable distance between Cox and the runner-up, Curtis Demol, who completed the 26.2-mile course in 3:04.15, while Cantius Thomas clocked 3:08.35 for the third spot. Shayne Barran was fourth in 3:20:52 and Fitzalan Villafana, fifth, in 3:29.10. Meanwhile, Christine Regis also broke the course record when she defended her women’s title in 3:51.43. Taking second and third were Wendy Shalhow (4:16.45) and Rosamund Johhy (4:22.08), respectively. The main race began at Marianne Bridge, Blanchisseuse and finished at the Arima MP’s office on Pro-Queen Street, while the Five-Mile race started at Lalaja Junction and finished at the same point. Defence Force runner George Smith won the shorter race in 27.01, followed by Christian Benny (27.06) for second and Quincy Elliot (28.03) for third. The top three women finishers were Tonya Nero, Samantha Shukla and Jenelle Nedd, respectively. |
