Trinidad Guardian :: 25.08.2019

Sprinter Nyoshia Cain-Claxton won T&T's first medal at the Parapan American Games at the National Stadium in Lima, Peru, yesterday, copping bronze in the women's 200 metres T64 final.

The race was won by the United States' Sydney Barta in a time of 28.09 seconds while her compatriot Beatriz Hatz was second in 28.13.

Cain-Claxton crossed the line in 28.81 at the Athletics Stadium in the National Sporting Village.

Another T&T athlete, Carlos Greene, meanwhile placed fifth in the men's F11 discus throw with a best effort of 27.76 metres.

That event was won by Brazil's Alessandro Da Silva (45.34 metres), who bettered Argentina's Alexis Ortiz (30.97) and Colombia's Edwin Rodriguez (30.24).

Greene will now focus his attention on the shot put F11 event on Wednesday.

Akeem Stewart will open action for T&T tomorrow in the men's discus F64.
