Ahye 5th, Cedenio 6th at Pre Classic

Michelle-Lee Ahye finished fifth in the women 's 100 metres dash at the Prefontaine Classic IAAF Diamond League meet in California, USA, yesterday. The Trinidad and Tobago track star got to the line in 11.23 seconds.

Ivory Coast sprinter Marie-Josee Ta Lou claimed gold in 11.02, finishing ahead of Americans Aleia Hobbs (11.04), Teahna Daniels (11.13) and Sha'Carri Richardson (11.15). Americans English Gardner (11.24) and Tori Bowie (11.30) were sixth and seventh, respectively, while Jamaica's two-time Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce had to settle for eighth in 11.39.

T&T's Machel Cedenio produced a 45.71 seconds run for sixth spot in the men's 400m. Michael Norman dominated the field, getting home in 44.62 to lead an American podium sweep. Kahmari Montgomery (45.12) and Fred Kerley (45.13) completed the top three.

On Saturday, at the Jim Bush Championships in California, T&T's Jehue Gordon finished second in the men's 400m hurdles in 50.78 seconds. Two Saturdays ago, Gordon was second at an international meet in Nivelles, Belgium, the 2013 world champion getting home in a season's best 50.19.

At yesterday's Javelin Carnival, in Pihtipudas, Finland, Shakeil Waithe secured eighth spot in the men's javelin. The T&T athlete landed the spear 73.33 metres. At Saturday's BMC Grand Prix in Watford, England, Alena Brooks returned a time of two minutes, 04.92 seconds to finish 10th in the women's 800m.
