Cougars take juvenile lead

Cougars Track and Field Club ended the first day of the NGC/NAAATT Juvenile Championship with 98 points clear of its nearest rivals Memphis Pioneers Athletic Club at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo yesterday.

Cougars amassed a total of 198.5 points and were at their brilliant best in the relay as they reeled three wins in the three relay events that were contested. Cougars won the Under 9 mixed 4 x 50 metres, the Under 11 mixed 4 x 100 metres and the Under 13 mixed 4 x 50 metres relay events.

Immani Mathews of Toco Titans was golden in the Under 13 Cricket Ball Throw but was edged out in the Under 13 Boy's 100 metres final by Nathaniel Charles of Jaguars.

Keziah Peters of Simplex was the best Under 13 Girl's athlete that was on show as she sped home in the 100 metres final in 12.82 seconds from team-mate Aneila Packette who passed the line in 13.26 seconds. Favourite Jenna Marie Thomas of IG Fastlane finished in third place.

The Under 11 Boy's 80 metres was won, in the closest finish of the day when five athletes flashed past the line together. However, Akul Simon of Memphis Pioneers was first ahead of Jonas Guyton of Cougars with Micah Bain of Memphis in third. Fourth place was taken in the tight finish by David Bernard of Simplex with Tequan John and Unattached athlete in fifth.

Toco Tafac had a one-two finish in the Girls Under 11 80 metres event when twins Jenique Mc Laren led from start to finish to be ahead of Jenniah Mc Laren with Makayla Cupid of Zenith in third.

Today is the second day of the Juvenile Championship at the same venue from 10.00 am.
