West B takes top honours at Rotary Games

The West "B" Zone, spearheaded by top athletes Savion Adams, Ajania Taylor, Akeria Leacock and Naomi Buckmire outbattled a talented Central "A" Zone, to register its 25h lien on the Championship trophy in the 31st edition of the Port-of-Spain and Environs District, Rotary Games which was power by Nestle Milo on Thursday. The excitement unfolded at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Mucurapo with some 800 athletes from 81 primary schools competing.

West "B" accumulated 169 points, 44 points clear of Central "A" while training partner 'West "A" was third with 115 points, to be third at the championship. Young Sprinters Savion Adams of Crystal Stream Government School was exemplary in the 100, and 200 metres events as he blew away his rivals in style.

The same statement could be said for the Under-9 champion Ajani Taylor of Diamond Vale Government School. Precious Outram of Hokett Baptist School made her Principal Stanley Mahase smile as she strode clear in her three events, the 100,200 and the 400 metres to become the champion Under-15 girls at the Championship. Omari Thompson set the tone for the day when he won the opening 1500 metres event for the West B Zones in impressive fashion as they all excelled to ensure a very competitive and entertaining sports meet. The top Port-of-Spain athletes will now take aim at the National Primary School Games carded for carded for the Hasely Crawford Stadium on May 22nd.

The Port-of-Spain District is seeking to win the National Games for an unprecedented eight consecutive time and the 29th time in the past 31 years.

The day started with a very colourful and competitive March past of Teams which was witnessed by the Minister of education, Anthony Garcia, Minister of State in the Ministry of Education - Dr Lovell Francis and the President of the Port of Spain Rotary Club Hadyn Gittens; The Minister of Education and Dr Lovell made history by becoming the first Ministers to come to a Port of Spain Rotary Games and stay until the end of the Championship.
