HANDFUL HORSFORD

T&T thrower claims 5th javelin title

Kwame Laurence :: Trinidad Express :: 22.04.2019

Tyriq Horsford landed the spear 71.45 metres at the Truman Bodden Complex here in George Town, Cayman Islands, yesterday, to capture his fifth straight Carifta Games title. The Trinidad and Tobago thrower was in a class of his own, beating his nearest rival by more than nine metres as he successfully defended the Boys Under-20 javelin crown.

With the handful of victories, Horsford surpassed another T&T thrower, 2012 Olympic champion Keshorn Walcott, who won four Carifta javelin titles.

"This continues to motivate me," Horsford told the Express. "I need to stay focused and do what I need to do to be technically sound so I can throw even further than 71.45."
