Richards regains British title

Kwame Laurence :: Trinidad Express :: 20.02.2019

Che Richards regained his British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) Indoor Championship men's long jump title with a 7.63 metres leap in Sheffield, England on Sunday. The University of Edinburgh (Scotland) student produced the big jump in the opening round of the competition.

"Because of a hamstring strain I suffered after this jump," Richards explained in a Facebook post, "I had to withdraw after my first and only jump. I had plans for this competition. I had goals that were attainable but His (God's) plan is greater than mine. I'm taking this one as it is, taking back the fun I had competing with the guys and going to prepare my body for outdoors!"

At the same meet last year, Richards finished third, losing the title he had first captured in 2017. Injury then sidelined the Trinidad and Tobago athlete for the remainder of the 2018 season.
