St Fort, Stewart in Pre-Commonwealth Meet

Khalifa St Fort and Akeem Stewart are among the headline acts at this weekend's National Association of Athletics Administrations (NAAA) Pre-Commonwealth Meet, at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain.

St Fort is not listed for today's women's 100 metres dash. The 2017 Carifta Games double sprint champion, however, is expected to face the starter in the 200m tomorrow. Reyare Thomas and Kamaria Durant will do battle with St Fort in the half-lap event. Thomas, Durant and Shun-Shauna Mason are the main challengers for the 100m title.

Stewart is a Paralympic champion and Para Worlds double gold medallist. But for 2018, the 25-year-old is concentrating his energies on challenging his able-bodied rivals. Today, Stewart squares off against Hezekiel Romeo in the men's shot put. And tomorrow, Stewart and Quincy Wilson do battle in the discus.

Kyle Greaux, Jerod Elcock, Quinn-Lee Ralph, Shermund Allsop and the Farinha twins, Jonathan and Nathan will be on show today in the men's 100m. And tomorrow, they will all be back on the Crawford Stadium track for the 200.

Today's programme also includes Kyron Blaise and Andwuelle Wright in the men's long jump, and Domonique Williams in the women's 400m.

Janeil Bellille is the lone entrant in tomorrow's women's 400m hurdles. Jamaal James is the men's 800m favourite. And Shakeil Waithe will be hoping to build on his early-season form when he lines up in the men's javelin.

At a development meet, last month, Waithe threw 79.20 metres. With 2014 Commonwealth Games silver medallist Keshorn Walcott opting out of the 2018 edition, Waithe will carry Trinidad and Tobago's javelin hopes at the April 4-15 Games in Gold Coast, Australia.

Action at the Crawford Stadium today and tomorrow starts at 10am.
